Tips: During your Aptitude Test

Here is a list of tips for during your aptitude test:

Morning of the test:
If the test is in the morning or before noon it is very important to get a proper breakfast. Get up early so that you do not have to rush through having breakfast and getting ready.

Food, drinks, and snacks:
If the test is of longer duration you may wish to bring drinks, snacks or food. We suggest healthy drinks and foods:
Drinks: Avoid drinks with high sugar content, such as soda and chocolate drinks.
Snacks: Eat fruits and/or vegetables rather than candy and chips. Dark chocolate is a good alternative to candy, make sure the cacao content is at least 70%.

Arrive in due time:
Plan to arrive well ahead of time. Being 30 minutes early is better than being 5 minutes late. Have a contingency plan. What will you do if the train is late or canceled? How will you get there if your car breaks down?

Toilet breaks:
Go to the toilet before the exam starts. Exams can be quite long and there is no time to waste. Also, make sure to use any breaks there may be, do not risk needing to go during the test itself.

Practice examples:
Before the aptitude test itself, you will almost certainly be given practice examples to try. Make sure you understand the examples before continuing. Ask questions if anything is unclear at this stage.

Time limits:
Most aptitude tests are designed so that only a few people are able to complete them within the set time limit. You will feel under pressure because of this, working quickly, but without sacrificing accuracy, is important. Note that many aptitude tests are built in such a way that the difficulty of the questions increase as the test progresses. Expect to use more time on the later questions.

Skipping questions:
In the majority of aptitude tests you will be able to skip test questions and return to them later. Use this to your advantage. If you are having difficulty or using too much time on one question, skip it, you may then return to it later if you have time left.

Review questions:
If you have time to spare; review all test questions. Read every single question again, carefully, you may have missed something during the first read-through. It would be very unfortunate if you were to hand in your test before time with mistakes that could easily have been avoided, simply by reading the test again.

Finally:
Stay calm and focused. You have done your homework and have nothing to fear. Good luck!
